This book has been written with young readers in mind.It gives a lucid and lively account of Australia and it's people.Even though the book deals with a history of Australia since the Ice Age, the chapters dealing with Australia during the World Wars are easy to read and contain lots of valuable information. The book is illustrated by Susanne Ferrier. This book uses simple language and is easy to understand. It is very child friendly and makes it easy to understand the  wars and their impact on Australian society.

This book is a history of Australia that contains a comprehensive array of facts, words, images, maps and charts in an accessible, readable, informative and above all interesting format. Even though this book has not specifically been  written for children, it is easy to understand and contains some very useful information.The illustrations, posters and advertisements give a great insight into Australian society during the wars.

This book will suit very competent readers who enjoy the details of war. Even though it does not directly deal with the War in Europe it does tell of the ANZACS on the Western Front. There is a great glossary at the end of the book for those hard to understand words. There is also a very comprehensive timeline of the war included at the back of the book. This timeline lists each year of the war and the events that occurred each year.
